Security |
In computer science, the technique of protecting data stored in computer systems against any unauthorized access is termed computer security. Millions of computer systems across the world are a storehouse of trillions of databases. And users don't want the databases
· to be accessed by unauthorized recipients
· to be altered and destructed by unauthorized access
|
The Taxonomy
Secured computing deals with three core areas, known as CIA:
· Confidentiality -
Information is kept secured from illicit users.
· Integrity -
It ensures that illegal users aren't allowed to alter or damage information without being traced out by authorized users.
· Authentication -
Permits only users who are what they claim to be.
|
Failure of any of the above properties results in lack of security. Additional ideas of security engineering include:
· Access Control -
This allows users to access only the resources which they are entitled to. It also ensures that authorized users aren't denied access to the services they lawfully expect to receive.
· Availability -
Makes sure that a system is functional at a given time and `denial-of-service' does not occur.
· Non-repudiation -
Ensures that creator of messages can't deny that they were the ones to send the messages.
· Privacy -
Allows users to control the use, purpose and maintenance of personal information and access to the same.
Your PC Needs Security
|
|
|
Your personal computer is a favorite target for intruders and hackers, who are looking for your bank account details, credit card numbers and anything that's stored in your PC. Not only financial information, they are also after your PC properties and resources. They use as many computer systems as they can to avoid potential legal enforcements and prosecution.
|
To ensure that your PC security is up to the mark to resist itself from computer threats, you should perform the following tasks:
· Installing an Anti-Virus program and using it frequently.
· Keep your PC patched.
· Be cautious before you read an email or view an attachment.
· Install a Firewall program.
· Make regular back-ups of important files and folders.
· Create a strong password.
· Download and install programs with great caution.
· Install a Hardware Firewall.
· Install Access Control and Data Encryption program; make sure to use them.
